PRINCE DONATES OWN ARTWORK TO AUCTION.

A Devon wildlife charity was today eagerly looking ahead to a prestigious fundraising auction after the Prince of Wales handed over one of his own artistic creations to help support the cause.

Prince Charles has donated one of his own lithographs of the River Dart to be sold at an art auction on October 15 in aid of the Devon Wildlife Trust (DWT).

The Royal masterpiece will join 60 other artworks for the sale at Rendells 'Stonepark auction rooms in Ashburton to help protect the future of the River Dart.

The signed lithograph, which measures 12 inches by 16 inches, is the Prince's proof of Glen Gairn in Aberdeenshire.

Clive Morgan, from Rendells, said: "We are delighted to be able to host this important event for the Devon Wildlife Trust particularly as the future of the River Dart and its catchment area is so important to the surrounding countryside in which we operate."

Well known local artist Simon Drew leant his support to the project by asking fellow creatives to donate their work. He said: "We appealed to local artists who have drawn inspiration from the river and its surroundings to give something back - a chance to help protect wildlife by capturing the spirit of the Dart or Dartmoor its wildlife or landscape.

"Our sincere thanks go to all those who have taken the time to support this project and to donate some really interesting pieces."

DWT fundraising officer, Amanda Sherwin, said: "We have had a great response with donations from artists such as Robin Armstrong, John Rochester and Jilly Sutton.

"We hope to raise in the region of £7,000 on the day, so please come along and support local artists and wildlife.

"The range of items on offer is very varied from paintings to ceramic pots, wooden automata to felt wall hangings, so there should be something for everyone."

Money raised from the auction will go towards the DWT's Dart Catchment Project which aims to restore habitats, tackle pollution hotspots and mobilise local people to keep the Dart safe for future generations.

The DWT still needs to raise more than £50,000 to fund the project, which finishes at the end of next year.
